Here’s how to accept a GoDaddy domain transfer:
First off, you need a GoDaddy account. They’re free and easy to create. If you already have one, skip to step 2.
Click the “Create Account” link at the top of the GoDaddy.com home page:
That will take you to a signup page where you’ll enter your name, email address, password, etc. It’ll look something like this:
Fill out all of the required info. Once you’ve done that, you’ll get an “Important Account Information” email from GoDaddy saying thanks, etc. This email will also include your GoDaddy account number. This is important for the next step.
Email the domain’s owner and tell them your GoDaddy account number (or account name) and the email address that’s associated with that account.
The person who is pushing the domain name to your account will then initialize the transfer.
You’ll get an email saying that the change has been initiated, and there will be instructions about what to do next.
This is what the email will look like in your inbox:
Open it up and it’ll look like this:
Follow the directions in the email (or keep reading here to see step-by-step screenshots).
Log in to your GoDaddy account.
Click the black “My Account” button on the right side of the screen.
Click “Pending Account Changes” on the left side of the screen:
That will open a new tab or window and take you to a new page. Select the domain you’d like to accept by clicking the check box next to it, and then click the “Quick Accept” button:
A box will pop up that says “Accept Domain Account Change.” Check the box saying that you’ve read and agree to the terms of service and click the OK button.
The box will then say “Your changes have been submitted. Please allow a few minutes for the changes to take effect.” Press OK and that’s it! The domain will be in your Domain Manager and you can do whatever you want with it.
In a few minutes you’ll get another email from GoDaddy with the subject line “IMPORTANT: Transfer of domain registration confirmation.”
Note: If you want to transfer the domain name to a registrar other than GoDaddy, you’ll need to wait for 60 days.
Let me know if you have any questions.
