Hey, Tristan, I’m a new fiction author converting my website to a blog and not very techie so it is slow. I’ve really been stumped for content and subject matter I could use for a small book to give away or sell cheap or both. Reading your little book gave me some ideas. I have a number of “letters” sent to friends through the years recounting trips in our RV. They aren’t so much about reciting places or specifics, but amusing mistakes, ‘Murphy’s law’ type events that at times were quite hair raising. So maybe I’ll come up with an Rving kit of do’s and don’ts. Thanks! You’ve already helped me clarify the clutter several times since I stumbled over your site through LinkedIn!

Hi Tristan,

Thanks again for a great product. Just one question. I have a membership site on Paris Unraveled, which is basically a 70,000 word awesome e-book about moving to France. Great, right? I’m not charging very much for it – like $2 a month or $18 for the year, which isn’t expensive, even for a student.

Here’s my issue. I started a blog to go with the site, except that I’m not very good at updating regularly. I basically thought blogging would be a good way to get better search engine rankings and thus more visitors, but it’s not really helping me get people to actually check out the rest of my site.

Do you think a blog is essential to marketing a membership site? And if you do, how do you get people who find the site to click on other stuff, namely, the book?

Thanks!
Allison

Hey Tristan,

I downloaded the PDF and did a quick look through it. I think you’ve got lots of actionable info in there. Good job! :)

Love this idea for an free e-book. Also, just wanted to say that your post on how to use Pintrest was pretty insightful. My fiancee recently turned me on to this website and all of her friends are crazy about it. (Personally, I still don’t get it.) However, I can tell there’s something to that website so thanks for giving me some potential marketing ideas with that website. Cheers! Let me know if you ever need a guest post.

I have the EPUB Reader extension for Firefox so I tried that and the PDF version. The PDF version looks a lot better, but there is nothing wrong with the EPUB version. I haven’t read the eBook yet but will soon.

great e-book!

I have a question that some of you may be able to answer:

Instead of thinking for ages about what to blog about, do you think it would be a good idea to simply get on with it, blog about your daily life, perhaps about trying new things, and see which of them branches off into an area in which you could delve deeper into and which one is receiving most interest?

Hope I was clear there…
What do you think?
